FEBRUARY 25: HOW TO CHOOSE A GPS/CHARTPLOTTER AND VHF RADIO
Saturday, 10am-3pm, Attendance no charge. In the morning Raymarine will be demonstrating their new E and I series instrumentation, C-Series Widescreen Multifunction Displays, E-Series Widescreen with Hybrid Touch Screen technology, AIS and Radar. In the afternoon Standard Horizon will demonstrate their range of chartplotters including the new CPN Series of Bluetooth Touch Screen GPS/Chartplotters. As well they will discuss VHF/AIS and Radar. A light lunch will be served compliments of Raymarine and Standard Horizon.
MARCH 3: 12 VOLT ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP
Saturday 1am-3pm Attendance $20.00($10.00/spouse) Learn how to expand, upgrade, survey and troubleshoot your boat's DC electrical system. David Good will review battery selection, installation and maintenance, calculating electrical loads, a review of systems monitors, high-output alternators, selecting and installing solar, wind and water power, wiring new electrical panels, inspecting DC bonding systems and more.
MARCH 17: INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION
Saturday 10am-4pm: Attendance: $5.00 This is an introduction the use of GPS and chartplotters. We will also touch briefly on Radar. Learn the basics of using electronic charting to know where you are, how to navigate and how to avoid hazards. PRESENTED BY CANADIAN POWER SQUADRON. A light lunch will be served.
MARCH 24: FUNDAMENTALS OF WEATHER
Saturday 10am-4pm: Attendance $5.oo The Fundamentals of Weather course will improve your knowledge of basic weather and should enable you to anticipate adverse weather & interpret weather signs. Topics include: Sun and effects on weather, winds, clouds, storms and forecasting. All boaters will benefit from this knowledge even when tied to shore. Little technical jargon will be used while explaining clearly the key processes involved. A light lunch is served.
MARCH 31: LEARN TO SPLICE WITH SAMSON ROPES
Saturday 1pm-4pm, $50.00/person. Includes splicing kit, materials and instruction. Interested in making your own custom dock lines? Learn 'hands-on' how to splice and whip 3-strand and braided rope. Carolyn Burgess, instructor.
APRIL 1: VHF STUDY COURSE AND EXAM
Sunday 10am-5pm-$65.00/person. Includes notes, lecture and exam. Obtain your VHF Radio Operators Certificate-ROC (Maritime) in 1 day (advance study required). Certificate is for life, no annual fee. This is a legal requirement for operating handheld/fixed mount VHF, HF or SSB radios. The instructor is a Recognized Examiner, Canadian Power & Sail Squadron.
