FEB 6: RAYMARINE PRESENTS: ELECTRONICS ONBOARD
11:00PM-12:00PM-Attendance no charge. Raymarine demonstrates how to choose a GPS/Chart plotter suitable for your type of cruising.
1:00PM-2:00PM-Attendance no charge. Raymarine will introduce its new line of E-Series Widescreen Multifunction Displays (MFD) with HybridTouch. The HybridTouch user interface gives boaters the simplicity and ease of touch screen operation, and also the confidence of complete keypad control in rough seas or inclement weather.
FEB 13: INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION
10:00am-4:00pm: no charge. An introduction to the use of GPS, Chart plotters, e-Loran and radar. Learn the basics of using electronic charting to know where you are, how to navigate and how to avoid hazards. PRESENTED BY CANADIAN POWER SQUADRON
FEB 20: 12-VOLT ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP
1:00-3:00pm: Attendance $20.00. Learn how to expand, upgrade, survey and troubleshoot your boat's DC electrical system. David Good will review battery selection, installation and maintenance, calculating electrical loads, a review of systems monitors, high-output alternators, selecting and installing solar, wind and water power, wiring new electrical panels, inspecting DC bonding systems and more.
FEB 27: INTERLUX YACHT PAINTS
10:30am-12:00noon Attendance: no charge. Antifouling, Barrier Coats and Topside Finishes. Find out how to protect your hull below the waterline from costly blisters using the INTERPROTECT System. Also, learn why Micron CSC may be the best antifouling paint for your boat – saving you time and fuel / money!
1:00pm – 2:30 pm. Attendance: no charge. Find out how to make your boat look like it was new above the waterline with PERFECTION Polyurethane Paint as well as other products manufactured by the world’s largest coatings company. Attendees will draw have the opportunity to win their Interlux purchases free on this day.
MARCH 6: LEARN TO SPLICE WITH SAMSON ROPES
1:00pm-4:00pm ,$50.00/person . Includes splicing kit, materials and instruction. Interested in making your own custom dock lines? Learn 'hands-on' how to splice and whip 3-strand and braided rope. Carolyn Burgess, instructor .
MARCH 13: FUNDAMENTALS OF WEATHER
10:00am-4:00pm: no charge. The Fundamentals of Weather course will improve your knowledge of basic weather and should enable you to anticipate adverse weather & interpret weather signs. Topics include: Sun and effects on weather, winds, clouds, storms and forecasting. All boaters will benefit from this knowledge even when tied to shore. Course uses little technical jargon, while explaining clearly the key processes involved.
MARCH 20: VHF STUDY COURSE AND EXAM
10:00am-5:00pm-$60.00/person. Includes notes, lecture and exam. Obtain your VHF Radio Operators Certificate-ROC (Maritime) in 1 day (advance study required). Certificate is for life, no annual fee. This is a legal requirement for operating handheld/fixed mount VHF, HF or SSB radios. The instructor is a Recognized Examiner, Canadian Power & Sail Squadron.
MARCH 27: PLEASURE CRAFT OPERATORS CARD
10:00am-5:00pm-$60.00/person. Includes notes, lecture and exam. Obtain your P.C.O.C. in 1 day (advance study required). Certificate is for life, no annual fee. Now, anyone wishing to operate a power-driven boat will be required to show proof of competency, P.C.O.C. Certain age and horsepower restrictions will apply for youths. After successfully writing the test, you will receive a one year complimentary CPS Associate Membership. The instructor is a Recognized Examiner, Canadian Power & Sail Squadron.
