Spinlock 2009 Deckware Range first to meet new International Standard
Spinlock’s 2009 Deckware range now available to European marine dealers is one of the first complete
system Lifejacket harnesses for performance sailing approved to the rigorous new ISO 12402 international
standard for 150N lifejackets.
The original Deckvest lifejacket harness quickly became the benchmark for performance life jackets by
integrating the latest safety harness and flotation technology in one very compact, front opening unit. Spinlock
have now evolved the Deckvest to comply with the very latest ISO 12402 international Standard. Whilst it
gives the same exceptional fit, comfort and freedom of movement that the Deckvest is synonymous with, it
now uses new lighter more durable materials and includes the new automatic “Pro Sensor” firing system. This
clearly indicates the armed status of the jacket through the window on the cover and ensures fast reliable
activation. As standard the Deckvest also includes the integral safety harness, sprayhood, high intensity light
and pocket for emergency cutter.
To go with the latest Deckvest, Spinlock have also launched a new ultra-compact, lightweight ‘Race’ series
safety line. The compact 16mm line attaches to the deck with a unique lightened dual action stainless steel
clip and to the lifejacket harness with a cow-hitch. As well as being less than half the weight of conventional
safety lines when dry, the webbing is “Drycoated” to prevent absorption of water that can add around 30% to
the weight of conventional lines.
These features coupled with reduced bulk make them easier to carry, encouraging use and transforming
personal mobility and security on deck.
Commenting on the thinking behind Spinlock’s 2009 Deckvest and new safety lines, Development Director
Chris Hill says: “there’s no question. Compactness & simplicity are really important in the MOB Prevention
equation: if the gear is really comfortable, crew will wear it and perform significantly better”.
All Spinlock ‘Race’ Safety lines are fitted with ISAF approved Overload Indicators to show any overload above
500kgs. Also available are ‘stretch’ lines and three-clip lines for manoeuvring without unclipping. Because any
type of safety line can become un releasable under load, Spinlock recommend always wearing a Spinlock ‘S’
Cutter or a sharp knife in the lifejacket ready for cutting the line in case of emergency.
